"Time" refers to the measurement of minutes, hours, days, etc., while "sheet" typically denotes a piece of paper or a document. When combined, "timesheet" refers to a document used for recording the amount of time worked by an employee.
We offer our free printable timesheets in Excel, Google Sheets, MS Word, Google Docs, typeable PDFs, and an image. You can use a printed timesheet, a digital timesheet (an online form), or a spreadsheet.
Traditionally a sheet of paper with the data arranged in tabular format, a timesheet is now often a digital document or spreadsheet. The time cards stamped by time clocks can serve as a timesheet or provide the data to fill one. The monthly timesheet provides a method to record the time each person was available for work during the month.
A timesheet differs from a time card in that the timesheet is intended to allow more free-form data entry by the employee, while the time card is designed only to be stamped with the start and stop dates and times for work.
